Position Summary:
To support the supervising physician in providing optimal patient care while functioning within their scope of practice. Spine or ORS experience preferred.
Responsibilities:
To act on behalf of the supervising physician by performing the following:
Evaluate new, follow-up and post-operative patients by obtaining accurate histories, performing appropriate physical examination and ordering appropriate and clinically indicated diagnostic studies. Diagnose and treat patients accordingly with the use of medications, injections, physical therapy and chiropractic care. Interpret imaging and study results confidently and accurately. Counsel and educate patients regarding medical conditions, diagnostics and treatment options. Prescribe medically necessary medications to patients in accordance with state guidelines. Facilitate information and communication between the patient and clinical staff/physician when necessary. Respond to patient messages and inquiries in a timely manner. Surgical assist in OR and round on inpatients post-operatively according to PA-Physician agreement. Maintain CME and licensure requirements. Maintain BLS Certification and possibly ACLS.
Qualifications:
Graduation of an Accredited Physician Assistant Program. Texas State Licensure. NCCPA Certification. Spine experience preferred

Ethics/Integrity with regard to patient care and professional work relationships. Communication with the supervising physician, clinical and administrative staff, patients and patients family members. Attention to detail when interpreting tests, reviewing imaging and prescribing medications. Judgment in medical decision-making and interpersonal relations. Leadership clinically to facilitate patient care. Delegation of responsibility to MAs when indicated. Dependability with regard to minimizing unplanned time away as not to disrupt clinic schedules.
