Provides counseling to patients and their families for prevention of illness and maintenance of health, in order to assist patients in attaining physical, mental, and social well-being. Oversees compliance with the preventive healthcare needs of adult patients visiting the Primary Care Clinic. Refers high-risk, unstable, or extremely complex patients to the physicians and emergency medicine. Performs emergency care as appropriate. Participates in patient care rounds and conferences in the outpatient setting. Presents patient cases and classes for patient care conferences and academic institutions. Communicates patient management strategies to members of the patient care team. Serves in a leadership position and is recognized as a consultant and role model to other health care professionals both within, and outside, the institution. Acts as a preceptor to graduate students enrolled in nurse practitioner programs. Develops and/or conducts in-service education programs for other health care professionals. Serves as adviser/member of committees as needed. Develops, reviews, and appropriately updates policies, protocols, standards of nursing practice, standard operating procedures and scope of practice regarding adult, adolescent, pediatric and geriatric patient care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary members of the health care team.
