The Intake/Insurance Nurse is responsible for insuring that all referrals are responded to in a time, customer friendly manner. It is the responsibility of the Intake/Insurance Nurse to verify and/or investigate initial insurance coverage and authorization for all referrals. It is the responsibility of this position to systematically monitor and manage all insurance authorizations. The Intake/Insurance Nurse works with all discipline coordinators to communicate short and long-term needs of new referrals. The Intake/Insurance Nurse reports to the Home Care Manager. Job Functions: 1. Takes all new referrals via telephone and/or facsimile. 2. Reviews referrals (intakes) for all pertinent information and makes any indicated follow-up calls for clarification or additional information. 3. Verifies insurance coverage of all new referrals. 4. Verifies initial insurance authorization and requested follow-up where indicated. 5. Maintains current knowledge about third party reimbursement, both Medicare/Medicaid and private/HMO insurance requirements. 6. Communicates on a regular basis with EHHC Liaison Nurse to facilitate discharges from Emerson Hospital. 7. Works closely with all discipline Coordinators to facilitate scheduling of referrals in a timely and clinically sound manner. Participates in discussions with Coordinators and Supervisor relating to decisions about acceptance of referrals. 8. Maintains tracking process for all private/HMO insurance authorizations and communicates with individual clinicians to insure proper and timely follow through. Will work with discipline Coordinators to resolve any ongoing problem 9. Maintains professional working relationships with physicians, other hospital departments, referral sources outside Emerson Hospital, and community agencies. 10. Is knowledgeable about current programs and capabilities of the department and communicates these to the Management Team. 11. Identifies new needs of the community or opportunities for new programs and communicates these to the Management Team. 12. Demonstrates to staff and referral sources an awareness of the importance of customer service. 13. Participates in and contributes to the CQI Process within the department and within Emerson Hospital. 14. Reviews weekly Admit log to verify that all referred patients were admitted, or noted as non-admit. 15. Works closely with, and acts as a back-up to the Triage Nurse. 16. May perform the role of a Home Care Nurse, as needed by the department, and as such adheres to all aspects of that job description. 17. Other duties as assigned from time to time. Minimum Qualifications: Education Experience - Minimum of two years home health experience; current knowledge of third-party reimbursement issues. Licensure and/or Certification - Licensed to practice nursing in the State of Massachusetts as an RN or LPN. Skills - Must demonstrate excellent communication skills and be able to work effectively in a team environment. Regular Full Time Employment
