Per Diem / Daily Contracting LVN/LPN Emergency Department (ER) in Traverse City, MI Per Diem / Daily Contracting Days ENTRY REQUIREMENTS Currently licensed as a Practical Nurse in the State of Michigan. Must be NAPNES certified, graduated from a laddered program, have taken pharmaceutical courses and is able to demonstrate competency, or have previous experience passing medications. Demonstrated ability to use the computer with Windows format or demonstrate competency with this format within a period defined by the nursing orientation policy. Demonstrates ability in using the computer with Windows format preferred. STANDARDS OF PRACTICE Under the direction and supervision of an RN: Collection of Health Data Collects health data in a systematic and ongoing manner involving the patient, family, and other health care providers as appropriate. Documents relevant data in a retrievable form. Identification of Outcomes Participates with the registered nurse, patient, family, and other healthcare providers in providing input into the patient-specific outcomes that are individualized and includes a time estimate for attainment. Planning Works within an established plan of care that involves the patient, family, and other health care providers that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes, establishes priorities, provides for continuity, and is documented. Implementation Implements the plan of care in a safe, timely, and appropriate manner and documents interventions. Reinforces health teaching and health promotion strategies. Works within hospital and nursing standards of practice and Munson Policies and Procedures. Performs assigned nursing procedures as delegated and competent to perform including: q Urinary catheterization q Ostomy, tracheostomy and wound care q Nasotracheal, oropharyngeal, and tracheostomy suctioning q Tube feedings q Assists patients with personal hygiene, comfort and ADL. q Oral medication administration q Administering and monitoring flow and site of IVs as established via hospital policy. Documents care provided in appropriate medical record. Evaluation Provides input into the evaluation of the patients progress toward attainment of outcomes and includes the patient, family, and other health care providers as appropriate. Reports to the accountable RN pertinent information accurately and promptly. Documents the patients responses to the interventions. Reports any unsafe situation/equipment according to Hospital procedure. Participates in quality of care activities at the unit level. Supports and participates in Shared Governance activities, as appropriate. Practice Evaluation Engages in performance appraisal on a regular basis, identifying areas of strength as well as areas for professional development. Takes action to achieve identified goals. Acquires and maintains current knowledge and competency in nursing practice. Education Participates in ongoing education activities related to clinical knowledge and professional issues. Complies with mandatory continuing education requirements to maintain licensure and meet job requirements. Seeks experiences that reflect current clinical practice in order to maintain current clinical skills and competence. Collegiality Contributes to an environment that is conducive to the clinical education of nursing students, other health care students, and other employees, as appropriate. Contributes to a supportive and health work environment. Ethics Maintains patient confidentiality within legal and regulatory parameters. Delivers care in a manner that is culturally sensitive and preserves patient autonomy, dignity, and rights. Maintains a therapeutic and professional patient-nurse relationship with appropriate professional role boundaries. Reports illegal, incompetent, or impaired practices. Collaboration Collaborates with the patient, family, and other healthcare providers for provision of seamless delivery of services. Consults with the accountable RN and other health care providers for patient care as needed. Participates, as appropriate, in the organizations structures and processes.
