Per Diem / Daily Contracting RN ICU - Critical Care / Intensive Care (ICU) in Lancaster, NH Per Diem / Daily Contracting Days - CPR Required POSITION SUMMARY The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible and accountable for patient care in the ICU as well as monitoring Telemetry rhythms. The ICU RN utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care of ICU patients. The ICU RN directs and coordinates patient care while collaborating with physicians, staff members, and ancillary/support services. The ICU RN provides care in compliance with hospital policies and the standards of practice of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN). In addition, the ICU RN possesses knowledge of CMS (HCFA) standards specific to Critical Access Hospitals, New Hampshire Department of Health guidelines, New Hampshire Board of Nursing rules, and the rules, regulations, policies, procedures and Standards of Nursing Practice of Weeks Medical Center. ACCOUNTABILITY The ICU RN is accountable first to the Critical Care Department Manager and second to the Chief Nurse Executive. INTERRELATIONSHIPS The ICU RN works closely with the ICU Medical Director, the general Medical Staff, nurses from other departments, as well as, clinical and support staff from all disciplines. The ICU RN demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills when interacting with colleagues, physicians, patients, families and the general public. QUALIFICATIONS v Current RN license in the State of New Hampshire. v Current BLS, Basic Dysrhythmia, and ACLS certifications required. v 12 Lead EKG course required. v PALS, TNCC, MOAB required within 6 months of hire. v Critical Care Course (including ventilator management) required within 6 months of hire. v Current clinical experience for at least five (5) years strongly preferred. ICU RN Intern may be considered with two (2) years medical surgical RN experience. v Excellent interpersonal communication skills and organizational skills required. v Computer skills strongly preferred. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Demonstrates clinical competence in general nursing and critical care nursing skills. 2. Demonstrates knowledge of and practices according to the American Association of Critical Care Nurses Core Curriculum and Standards of Practice. 3. Practices excellent interpersonal communication skills and conflict management skills. Follows the chain of command to resolve issues. 4. Demonstrates collegial attitude and follows the Commitment to Coworkers philosophy. 5. Actively participates on departmental projects such as CQI and other departmental process improvement activities. 6. Provides education to patients, families, and colleagues. 7. Reports risk management issues promptly. Completes thorough documentation of the incident and the investigation. Complies with Safety and Infection Control practices of Weeks Medical Center.
